Lot 650 – Four letters to Peter Alford dating from 14 January 1956 to 2 April 1958. The lot description includes a brief excerpt mentioning the dramatisation for radio of The Lord of the Rings – “I am personally arrogantly convinced that I could myself devise a better libretto, but I have not the time.”

A tengwar inscription in a copy of The Fellowship of the Ring is reproduced - Elen síla lúmenn' ómentielmo.
