Notes
This catalogue includes two Tolkien-related lots:

Lot 581 – A two page letter to Miss R.W. How dated 12 November 1949. The lot description includes extracts from the letter discussing Farmer Giles of Ham, and mentions that he has two ”very large scale works accepted and nearly finished”. Not included in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981).

Lot 582 – A letter to Miss A.P. Northey dated 19 January 1965. Tolkien comments on the fate of Shadowfax, and on applicability and allegory in The Lord of the Rings. The part of the letter regarding Shadowfax is given in full in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981) – Letter 268.
