Notes
The map showing A Part of The Shire appears on page 30. The 1980 version of the map of The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age and the Map of Gondor, Rohan and Mordor appear on the endpapers.

Two impressions issued:

1st Impression 1997 - 1,000 copies
2nd Impression 2000 - 980 copies

The 1st and 2nd Impressions were issued in a cloth covered slipcase, whereas the 3rd and 4th Impressions were issued in a leatherette covered slipcase.

The 1st Impression claims to be a limited edition of 1,000 copies. Later impressions do not make this claim, although many people make the assumption.

Rumours that only 300 copies of the 1st Impression were actually saleable due to binding problems would appear to be untrue.
