Notes
The description for Lot 394 (p.274) includes extracts from a letter to 38 children at a school in Acocks Green in Birmingham, dated 17 October 1966.

This one page letter discusses The Lord of the Rings, noting that there is no cheap paperback in the UK. Tolkien also states that "I lived till I was nearly 8 at Sarehole and used to walk to A.G. to see my uncle. It was all 'country' then but that was nearly 70 years ago..."

The letter is not included in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981).
